Everyone seems to be busy in their
homes or in office cabins. But have you wondered with what? It is the new trend
of online escape games that is making everyone crazy. Well, imagine the
excitement: you are locked in a room with a few of your closest friends, or
maybe they are co-workers, and you have limited time to solve, as Escape the
Space puts it, fiendishly clever puzzles to get out of that room, or else. You
can imagine yourself in a situation where you are given a task to defuse a bomb
as the clock ticks towards zero. Do you want to solve crimes and outwit
criminal masterminds? All this is nothing but the format
of online
escape games. The only part of this game that should be done online is
booking it.
The first room escape games were
developed in Japan in 2007 and rapidly spread across Europe. They migrated to
North America in 2012 or so and have been growing in popularity ever since. In
a room escape game, you are given a strict time limit (usually about an hour)
and must work together to solve puzzles and gain a key, just like in the old
adventure games you used to play. This is one industry where failure is
expected; the success rate for solving the puzzles typically hovers around
15-20%, and that is exactly how the owners want things to be. The puzzles are
not a breeze; many groups fail the challenge but the heightened stakes just
increase the thrills and fun. So, whether it is a birthday party, corporate
team building retreat or just an outing with friends, escape games are a unique
way to spend a few hours and work on your abstract thinking skills.
However, I would also like to remind
you guys that just play such games for fun and do not become an addict to it.
